What's Going on at Robert F. Lewis, P.C.
Like all successful law firms, we have our share of victories, and we have resolved several interesting cases recently, which we would like to share with you.
In a recent trial, we received a $115,000 verdict against ALFA and State Farm in a case that involved an underinsured motorist. The verdict was based on damages of $11,000.
One past trial involved a slip and fall claim against the City of Birmingham. In that case, our client severely injured her arm as a result of the height variance between sidewalk stones. We maintained that the City failed to properly maintain and adequately repair the sidewalk. As a result, they created a serious hazard, which led to our client's injury. The jury agreed, and they returned a verdict in the amount of $50,000.00.
Another case resolved an uninsured motorist claim for $100,000.00. Our client came to us about a workers compensation claim over one year after the accident. When we learned that he was driving a company vehicle, and that a woman ran him off of the road, we asked whether his company carried uninsured motorist coverage on his vehicle. They did, and as a result, we were able to resolve the case.
Finally, in the not too distant past, we completed a products liability case involving a defective motorcycle helmet. Our client was unfortunately killed in a collision, but his helmet caused his death. After several months of litigation, we were able to successfully mediate the case, and it was settled under a confidentiality agreement.
Currently, we are working on a wrongful death case against Norfolk Southern, 3M, and GE cable cars, and we are also working on several wrongful death cases involving serious OSHA violations. We are handling several 18-wheeler/tractor-trailer cases, in which our clients were seriously injured, in addition to the numerous other personal injury and lemon law cases, which we are involved in on a consistent basis.
As you can see, we handle a variety of cases ranging from slip and falls to products liability. We try to provide an option for those of you who either do not handle personal injury cases, or for those of you who may not have the time or money to invest in such cases. Please keep us in mind if you ever have the need for such services. We offer referral fees in accordance with the Alabama Rules of Professional Conduct, and we even contribute a portion of our fee to one of three children's charities in the Birmingham area.
